1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy sets out how The Pause Project 2025 ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and discloses personal information collected through our website (the "Website"), in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you have any questions, contact us using the details above. Providing us with personal information indicates that you accept this Privacy Policy. There is no obligation to provide personal information to us, though this may affect your ability to use certain features of the Website (such as contact forms, newsletter sign-up, or placing an order).

As a sole trader with annual turnover under AU$3 million, we currently fall within the small business exemption under the Privacy Act in most circumstances. We have chosen to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles anyway, as good practice and to give visitors confidence in how their information is treated.

2. Personal Information We Collect

We only collect personal information that is necessary for the purpose it is collected for. Depending on how you interact with the Website, this may include:

  • Contact form enquiries — name, email address, and any message content you submit.

  • Newsletter sign-ups — name and email address.

  • Orders or bookings (if applicable) — name, email, billing and shipping address, phone number, and order details. Payment card details are processed directly by our payment provider and are not stored by us.

  • Correspondence — information you provide when emailing us directly.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive information (such as health information) unless you provide it to us voluntarily and it is directly relevant to the purpose you provide it for.

3. Website Hosting, Cookies & Analytics

Our Website is built and hosted on Squarespace, which acts as our third-party website and e-commerce platform provider. Squarespace stores website content and any information submitted through Website forms, and provides built-in analytics and cookie functionality on our behalf.

  • Squarespace Analytics: We use Squarespace's analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Website — for example, pages visited, time on site, referring pages, browser/device type, and approximate location (from IP address). This information is aggregated and used to improve the Website; it is not used to identify you personally unless you have separately provided identifying information.

  • Cookies: Cookies are small text files stored on your device that support site functionality (e.g. shopping cart, session memory) and analytics. You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though this may limit some Website functionality.

  • Squarespace's own handling of data collected on our behalf is governed by its privacy policy, available at squarespace.com/privacy.

We do not use cookies to collect sensitive personal information, and do not permit third-party advertising trackers on the Website beyond what is built into the Squarespace platform.

4. How We Use Your Information

We only use your personal information to:

  1. Respond to enquiries made through contact forms or direct correspondence;

  2. Communicate with you about matters relevant to The Pause Project 2025, such as projects, exhibitions, or events;

  3. Process and fulfil any orders or bookings made through the Website;

  4. Send newsletters or marketing communications, where you have opted in — you may unsubscribe at any time;

  5. Maintain internal records; and

  6. Comply with legal obligations, and as otherwise permitted under the Privacy Act.

We will never sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.

5. Disclosure of Information

We only disclose personal information to third parties where necessary to:

  • Provide products, services, or the Website itself (for example, to Squarespace as our hosting and website platform provider, or to a payment or shipping provider where relevant to an order);

  • Comply with a legal obligation; or

  • As otherwise permitted or required by law.

Where we disclose personal information to a third-party service provider, we expect them to handle it consistently with this Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act.

Overseas storage: Squarespace and some other service providers may store or process data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to ensure any overseas handling of your information is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

6. Data Storage, Security & Retention

Personal information submitted through the Website is stored within our Squarespace account and any connected service providers (such as payment or email marketing platforms). We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure, including relying on the security measures built into the Squarespace platform.

No method of storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose it was collected for, or to meet legal record-keeping obligations (for example, financial records are generally kept for at least 5 years). If we become aware of a data breach likely to result in serious harm, we will comply with our obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where required.

7. Your Rights: Access, Correction & Deletion

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;

  • Correct any information that is inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete; and

  • Request deletion of your personal information, subject to any legitimate legal or record-keeping reasons we may have to retain it.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 9. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe, generally within 30 days, and will not charge for a request (though we may need to verify your identity first).

You may unsubscribe from newsletters or marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in those emails, or by contacting us directly.

8. Complaints

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or the Privacy Act, please contact us first using the details in Section 9 so we can attempt to resolve the issue directly. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):
